Diese Seite unterscheidet Abkürzungen und Symbole:

  • Als Abkürzung wird die gegenüber der ursprünglichen Länge verkürzte Darstellungsform eines Wortes oder einer Wortgruppe bezeichnet. [1]
  • Der Terminus Symbol (Sinnbild) wird allgemein für Bedeutungsträger (Zeichen, Wörter, Gegenstände, Vorgänge etc.) verwendet, die eine Vorstellung bezeichnen. [2] Symbole müssen nicht durch Buchstaben des lateinischen Alphabets ausgedrückt werden und kommen idR bei Formeln zur Anwendung.
